What is Instructional Design?

I was asked to write in my own words, “What is Instructional Design?” Well here it goes…

I remember learning about Instructional Design in my past online classes and Professional Developments. I decided to define and give my understanding of ”What is Instructional Design?”  and try my best to make it as simple as possible to comprehend for the person who would be reading my post.

Instructional Design is a step by step way of doing, developing, or training a orginazation, military, or a specific target audience a subject that you wish for them to follow or learn. The Subject or Topic is processed in a way that promotes positive growth, a healthy learning environment, and creates a deeper understanding  of the subject or topic that would enhance skills and knowledge of what is being taught.

Now the Instructional Design comes in many different models, but the most used is the ADDIE model.

ADDIE MODEL:

1. Analysis Phase : The analyzer will analyze instructions, establish clarity, goals and the objectives. To bring success to the audience he/she will ask questions that will help them understand more the audience. By analyzing and questioning he/she will be able to identify his/her’s learners knowledge, and skills for the environment.

2. Design Phase: The designer will design the objectives, lessons, assessments, instruments, media, subjects, visuals that will be incorporated to the content or lessons being taught.

3. Development Phase: In the development phase the developer creates and puts together the subject from the designers instructions either be thru programming, combining, performing and fixing the design for revising and reviewing.

4. Implementation Phase: The implementation is the teaching method, or instructions that’s being provided to the target audience. It’s the tangible resources needed to learn that specific subject being taught.

5. Evaluation Phase: The evaluation phase is the formative and summative process used for your target learners either thru hands on activities, assessments, or verbal. This will then give feedback of what your learners or target audience was able to grasp from the training, or instruction being taught.

I can only hope that my short summary may help my reader understand the meaning of ‘What is Instructional Design’.

After having the tech course that covers instructional design you can’t help but mention ADDIE.
